My Interview With Dave Drouin of The Brew
This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Dave Drouin; the guitarist of the Boston Jamband, The Brew. This band has continued to be a huge favorite of mine, and is one of those bands that will become one of the leading forces in the jamband community. They can bring a jazzy jam aspect, and write songs that will blow anyone away. With the small hint of electronic jamming, they make sense for the future of the jam genre. This band has brought the Boston music scene to life with their hometown ever-so-epic performances, as well as spreading their talent to the rest of the east coast. TC: When did you begin playing?
DD: We began playing together as The Brew in 2002,. But Kelly and I have been playing together since the 90s..
TC: How did you meet the other band members of The Brew?
DD: We all met in high school since we went to the same school.
TC: What are some of your influences as far as music goes?
DD: Influences are as broad as can be imagined.. Mine personaly are
Anais Mitchell, Brian May, Jerry (Garcia), The Edge, Alan Holdsworth, Jimmy Page, and a lot of others.
TC: Who or what do you find to be your musical, or literature inspiration?
DD: Inspiration for our band comes from any and everything.. Good books, good albums, nature ect. ect.
TC: When did The Brew start gigging as a band?
DD: The Brew started gigging in 2002 weeks after our first rehearsal.
TC: Was there any festivals or venues that you find to be your “big break”?
DD: The term big break is a little strange. And I’d say we haven’t had ours but touring with bill kreutzman and Bruce Hornsby were really memorable for the band…
TC: As far as tour life, how do you and the rest of the band get along?
DD: For the most part touring is hella fun. And we truly are great friends who have lived and learned with each other for the better part of a decade.
TC: What do you find to be the biggest peak of your musical career? How about for the Brew’s biggest accomplishment, in your mind?
DD: I think the Brews biggest accomplishment has been sharing the stage and gaining the respect of our musical heroes.
TC: So you guys are in the recording studio, right?
DD: We are in the studio know getting tunes cranked out for our next release. We are quite excited and proud of the new stuff and are pumped to unleash the newest “brain child.”
TC: How’s the festival season turning out for you guys?
DD: Festival season is coming along great and some big shows have already been announced such as our return to Mountain Jam!!
TC: What can fans expect from The Brew in the next year?
DD: I hope a year from now our drive to create art and music continues on it’s up swing and brings our creativity to more and more people.. Oh yeah and world domination.

Dave Dog Drouin, the man who knows what it means to add the needed riffage! Let me y’all say, “Riffage!” Yeh!!!!!
I remember hearing these guys on Jam On one day and just being floored…my buddy and i played the entire ~12 minute song again. don’t know what it’s called but i got home and signed up for their newsletter that day. it was one hell of a song and i can’t wait to see them the next time they’re in nyc.
